SARA Retail Network Expands to 14,068 Outlets as Malaysia Deepens Targeted Aid Reach

Semporna, 15 August 2026 – Malaysia has expanded the merchant network supporting Sumbangan Asas Rahmah, or SARA, to 14,068 premises nationwide as of 7 August, strengthening the last-mile infrastructure behind one of the country’s main targeted assistance programmes.

The scale-up is significant when measured against the programme’s starting point. SARA had about 700 participating premises when it was introduced in 2024, meaning the network has grown roughly twentyfold in two years. The expansion is intended to make cash assistance credited through recipients’ MyKad more practical to use, particularly in rural communities where distance and limited retail choice can weaken the impact of social support.
