Ringgit Opens Higher as Fed Rate Hold Eases Pressure on Asian Currencies

Kuala Lumpur, 30 July 2026 – The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Thursday after the Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged, offering modest relief to emerging Asian currencies following a period of sustained dollar strength.

The Malaysian currency traded near the RM4.09 level against the greenback in early dealings, building on a cautious recovery as investors assessed the implications of the US central bank’s latest decision. Foreign-exchange activity remained measured, however, as uncertainty over the Fed’s next move kept traders from taking larger positions.
