Ringgit Holds Near RM4.09 as US Jobs Data and Oil Risks Set the Tone

Kuala Lumpur, 7 August 2026 – The ringgit opened almost unchanged against the US dollar while strengthening against most major currencies, as investors balanced expectations of resilient American employment with renewed concerns over Middle East security and energy supplies.

At 8.05am, the Malaysian currency traded at RM4.0895 to RM4.0960 against the greenback, compared with Thursday’s closing range of RM4.0875 to RM4.0920. The narrow movement reflected a market unwilling to establish large positions before the release of the United States non-farm payrolls report.
