Public Bank’s Quarterly Profit Slips as Credit Charges Rise

Public Bank reported third-quarter profit of RM1.77 billion as higher credit allowances and lower investment income offset gains in net interest income.

Kuala Lumpur, 6 November 2026 – Public Bank Berhad reported third-quarter net profit of RM1.77 billion, down 3.8% from RM1.84 billion a year earlier, as higher loan and financing impairment allowances weighed on earnings. Revenue rose 4.4% to RM7.74 billion in the three months ended 30 September 2026. Net profit for the first nine months was broadly unchanged at RM5.35 billion.

The increase in allowances is a confirmed expense; it does not, on its own, establish that borrowers are falling behind on payments across the loan book.
