PM Announces One Month Free Toll for Newly Opened EKVE Expressway

KUALA LUMPUR, August 29, 2025 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that motorists using the newly opened East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will benefit from toll-free travel starting 6 am on August 30 and ending at 11:59 pm on September 29. The announcement was made during the launch of Section 1 of EKVE, which marks a milestone in Malaysia’s highway infrastructure expansion.

Section 1, spanning approximately 24.16 km between Bandar Sungai Long and Ukay Perdana, constitutes the initial phase of the broader 39.5 km EKVE corridor. This section includes four key interchanges—Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang—supported by four toll plazas and two lay-bys. Designed as a dual two-lane roadway, the expressway has been planned with future expansion in mind; additional land has already been allocated to upgrade lanes to six when traffic demand peaks.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized that EKVE will significantly enhance traffic flow by providing a strategic bypass for motorists avoiding inner-city congestion. The new route is expected to cut the travel time between Ampang and Kajang to just 20 minutes, easing traffic burdens on existing arterial roads.

Section 1 is part of the larger Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) framework, aimed at improving connectivity across the Klang Valley’s eastern sector. Meanwhile, Section 2, which will extend the expressway further to Ukay Perdana, is under active construction and remains on schedule for full completion of the EKVE.

The one-month toll waiver announced by the Prime Minister serves as a gesture of goodwill in conjunction with National Day festivities. It also offers commuters a timely opportunity to experience enhanced connectivity free of charge.
