Kuala Lumpur, 3 August 2026 – Malayan Banking Berhad is reportedly close to acquiring Ageas SA’s 30.95% interest in Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad, a potential transaction that would give Malaysia’s largest banking group full control of the insurance and takaful businesses operating under the Etiqa brand.
Negotiations are understood to have advanced, although Maybank, Ageas and Etiqa have not announced a binding agreement. The acquisition price, funding structure and expected completion date also remain undisclosed, while any transaction would likely require regulatory approvals.
