Petaling Jaya, 5 October 2026 – Malaysia’s National Archives is developing a RM32 million digital records and archival management platform with artificial-intelligence functions, turning cultural preservation into a test of public-sector technology procurement, data integrity and long-term digital infrastructure.

The Digital Records and Archival Management System, known as D-ReAMS, is expected to launch in 2028. Planned capabilities include AI-assisted restoration of older material and computer vision that can identify objects, buildings and other elements in photographs or maps. The system is intended to improve the processing, preservation and discovery of archival records rather than replace professional judgement.
