State figures show that 92 New York cases were reported across 18 counties from 15 July to early October. Pennsylvania has reported more than 970 cases, many in rural areas near the state border, increasing the risk of cross-border transmission. Measles is highly contagious, so even a limited number of infectious travellers can create clusters in communities with gaps in vaccination coverage.
