ITMAX Secures Landmark Railway Infrastructure Contract for Malaysian Transport Ministry

ITMAX System Bhd has clinched its first-ever railway infrastructure contract, marking a pivotal expansion beyond its established smart city services. The deal, awarded by the Transport Ministry, will see the company paying a total of RM90 million under a build–operate–transfer model to support state-of-the-art rail infrastructure. The project includes the construction, delivery, as well as creation and management of rail system software over a five-year period, underscoring ITMAX’s growing footprint in national transportation development.

While this marks the company’s debut in railway infrastructure, ITMAX’s long-standing expertise lies in smart traffic solutions, where it recently secured a RM145 million contract from the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) for a smart traffic light system spanning 20 years until 2045 via subsidiary Southmax Sdn Bhd. This rail contract signals an ambitious diversification of capabilities.

In commenting on the MBJB award, ITMAX’s CEO William Tan Wei Lun explained that the win reinforces local councils’ growing confidence in the firm’s AI-driven infrastructure solutions and more broadly, their trust in ITMAX as a long-term smart city partner. He further highlighted that the project aims to elevate traffic efficiency in Johor Bahru, contribute to carbon emissions reduction, and support the state’s wider ESG objectives—all while delivering positive contributions to earnings and net asset value per share. ITMAX’s shares remained steady at around RM4.01, maintaining a market cap near RM4.14 billion.

This rail infrastructure venture not only widens ITMAX’s commercial horizons but also positions the company in the high-impact railway sector—potentially unlocking new revenue streams, enhancing technological integration capabilities, and reinforcing its role in the country’s evolving digital transport landscape.
