“I Love Malaysia”: Jacky Cheung Wows Sold-Out KL Shows with Timeless Star Power

Hong Kong Cantopop icon Jacky Cheung has once again proven that age is no barrier to greatness, dazzling fans at the fully packed Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, during his much-anticipated return to Malaysia.

The 64-year-old legend kicked off his “Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour” on Friday (Aug 15) to thunderous applause, launching a six-night sold-out run from Aug 15–17 and Aug 22–24. Presented by Maybank and Golden Destinations and organised by Star Planet, the concerts drew 15,000 fans each night, captivated from the opening note.

Over three electrifying hours, Cheung performed 30 songs accompanied by a dynamic dance troupe, state-of-the-art stage effects, and immersive visuals that blended lighting design with multimedia projections. As with his past tours, the show was more than a concert—it was a full sensory spectacle, leaving fans singing, swaying, and clamouring for more.

A Heartfelt Return to Malaysia

“I love Malaysia so much, and it feels so good to be back,” said Cheung, who celebrates 40 years in music this year.
“I’m always happy in KL. I love you, Malaysian fans—you are simply amazing. KL is truly special, and I will keep coming back.”

The overwhelming demand for tickets—snapped up within minutes—reflects Cheung’s enduring magnetism, echoing the triumphant success of his 2023 shows. Fans from across the globe travelled to Kuala Lumpur to experience his legendary live energy.

Beyond a Concert: A Musical Journey

The “60+” tour, Cheung’s tenth solo concert series, is more than a milestone—it’s a reflection on life, growth, and resilience. Inspired by the imagery of water, the concept symbolises adaptability, inclusiveness, strength, and humility, encouraging audiences to embrace life’s ebb and flow with grace.

“This tour is not just a performance—it’s a journey through my past, present, and future,” he shared, inviting Malaysian fans into his timeless musical universe.

The Enduring “God of Songs”

Widely hailed as one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Cantopop, Cheung has shaped generations with his emotive voice, unforgettable ballads, and genre-spanning hits. Classics such as Farewell Kiss, Love You More Every Day, Half Moon Serenade, and A Thousand Reasons to Be Sad remain staples in the hearts of millions.

Since debuting with Smile in 1985, Cheung has sold over 60 million albums worldwide, with 14 platinum records, three million-sellers in Taiwan, and one of Asia’s best-selling albums, The Goodbye Kiss (1993). His accolades include the World Music Award (1996), Billboard Music Award (1994), and a Guinness World Record (2012) for the largest combined live audience in 12 months, drawing more than two million fans.

Cheung has also left an indelible mark on film, starring in classics such as Days of Being Wild, As Tears Go By, Bullet in the Head, and Ashes of Time. His most recent role was in 2024’s Customs Frontline, where he portrayed a customs officer navigating a high-stakes case.

A Living Legend

After 40 years, more than 35 studio albums, and 10 global tours—including A Classic Tour (2016–2019), which drew 4.5 million attendees—Jacky Cheung continues to embody the brilliance of an era. To his fans, he is not only the God of Songs, but also a symbol of artistry, resilience, and timeless love for music.
