Bolt Sets Sights on Nationwide Rollout in Malaysia

General Manager Afzan Lutfi said the company has seen strong interest from both drivers and passengers beyond the Klang Valley and aims to expand its services nationwide.

KUALA LUMPUR: Estonia-based e-hailing newcomer Bolt is aiming for nationwide coverage in Malaysia as it ramps up operations through its local subsidiary, Bolt Services MY Sdn Bhd.

General manager Afzan Lutfi said interest from both drivers and passengers outside the Klang Valley has been strong, prompting plans to extend services across the country.

“We definitely have the ambition to expand throughout Peninsular and East Malaysia,” Afzan said at the launch of Bolt Business, the company’s corporate travel service platform. “The demand from other states is clear, and expansion is on our roadmap. For now, our priority is to serve the Klang Valley exceptionally well.”

Afzan noted that Malaysia’s e-hailing sector still has room to grow despite intense competition.

“According to the official Asia Pacific portal, Malaysia has over 30 licensed e-hailing operators, but only a few are highly active. We believe healthy competition benefits everyone, and our goal is to win over passengers and drivers while collaborating closely with regulators to shape the country’s mobility landscape,” he said.

From a market potential standpoint, Bolt Malaysia expects demand for e-hailing services to keep rising.

“Our goal is to provide a service that is safe, affordable, and meets the needs of both passengers and drivers,” Afzan added.

As part of its growth push, the company has introduced Bolt Business, a digital platform designed to simplify corporate travel management for organisations of all sizes.

The service, offered with no onboarding fees, provides a centralised dashboard to book, manage, and track rides, as well as tools to streamline invoicing and expense reporting. Bookings can be made up to 90 days ahead, with detailed reports on usage and budgets.

Administrators can set budget limits, define approved destinations, and generate discount codes for employees or guests—features particularly useful for event organisers and shopping malls.

All Bolt drivers in Malaysia hold valid licences, have undergone background checks, and are regularly re-evaluated. Safety measures include an in-app emergency button, audio trip recording, active and passive GPS tracking, and route monitoring to detect anomalies such as detours or unusual stops.

Bolt Business also offers 24/7 customer support, dedicated account managers at no extra cost, and integration with third-party tools to assist corporate finance teams.

Globally, more than 50,000 companies use Bolt Business, with over 20,000 joining last year.

“Malaysia is a significant market for us, from startups and SMEs to large corporations. Bolt Business delivers an affordable, reliable transport solution for a range of needs—whether it’s getting sales teams, engineers, or executives where they need to be,” Afzan said.
