Ringgit Gains Against Major Currencies as Strong US Data Supports Dollar

Kuala Lumpur, 4 August 2026 – The ringgit opened higher against several major currencies on Tuesday but remained nearly unchanged against the US dollar after stronger-than-expected American manufacturing data reinforced expectations that US interest rates could rise further.

At 8am, the local currency traded at 4.0935/1000 against the greenback, compared with Monday’s close of 4.0935/0975. The narrow movement indicated that the ringgit was holding its ground even as investors reassessed the outlook for US monetary policy.
