PETRONAS Makes New Suriname Gas Discovery as Offshore Findings Exceed 1 Billion Barrels

Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2026 – Petroliam Nasional Berhad has made a new gas discovery at Block 52 offshore Suriname, strengthening the Malaysian energy group’s international upstream portfolio as total findings in the block now exceed 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

The latest discovery adds further momentum to PETRONAS’ exploration success in the Suriname-Guyana Basin, one of the world’s most closely watched emerging offshore energy frontiers. Block 52 has become increasingly important to Suriname’s long-term energy ambitions, with multiple successful discoveries supporting the country’s push to build a commercially viable offshore oil and gas industry.
