Singapore, 12 June 2026 – Meta Platforms has begun unwinding parts of its acquisition of Singapore-based Manus, marking a sharp reminder that artificial intelligence deals are no longer judged only by commercial logic, valuation or technological fit.
The US technology group has reportedly completed an operational split from Manus and stopped data-sharing between the two companies, after Chinese authorities objected to the acquisition on national-security grounds. The move effectively places a firewall between Meta and the Chinese-founded agentic AI company, turning what was once seen as a strategic AI expansion into a complex cross-border regulatory challenge.
