Kuala Lumpur, 1 October 2026 – Tenaga Nasional Bhd is positioned to benefit from Malaysia’s expanding data-centre industry, but the investment case turns on more than announcements of new server campuses. Electricity must be connected, drawn and paid for before demand becomes recurring utility revenue. The company’s own reporting gives investors a useful distinction: by December 2025, data centres were using 850 megawatts of actual load, while 35 connected projects represented about 4.5 gigawatts of capacity.

That gap between connected capacity and live utilisation is not a contradiction. A data centre can secure a grid connection well before every hall is equipped with servers and operating at full load. It does, however, mean that headline gigawatts should not be treated as immediate sales. TNB also reported a broader pipeline of 56 projects representing roughly 7.5 gigawatts at different stages of development. The speed at which those projects move from agreements to sustained demand is the key commercial variable.
