Singapore, 27 October 2026 – Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has pledged to connect data centres to Malaysia’s electricity grid within one year after approval by a ministry-chaired committee. The commitment was announced as the utility discussed rising power demand and regional electricity connectivity. TNB also identified demand forecasting, network-capacity planning and targeted infrastructure development as practical measures for preparing the domestic system.
The pledge matters to data-centre developers and investors because grid access is a core condition for bringing power-intensive facilities into operation. It gives an approval-linked time frame, but the announcement does not specify the number of facilities covered, their capacity, a national connection queue or the investment required. The confirmed undertaking is a one-year connection target for facilities approved by the committee; it should not be read as a guarantee of unlimited grid capacity or automatic approval.
