KUALA LUMPUR, 31 August 2025 – Popular Malaysian hip-hop collective SteadyGang has released a brand-new patriotic track ahead of the country’s 68th National Day, blending modern rap with traditional rhythms to celebrate unity, pride, and cultural heritage.
The song, titled “Tanah Air Kita” (Our Homeland), dropped across streaming platforms on Friday and has quickly gained traction on social media. Known for their streetwise lyricism and youthful energy, SteadyGang has infused the anthem with powerful verses highlighting Malaysia’s diversity and resilience, set against a backdrop of traditional instruments like the kompang and serunai, layered with urban beats.
Bridging Generations Through Music
SteadyGang said the new track was designed to resonate with both older and younger audiences. “We wanted to create something that reflects the struggles of our forefathers, but also speaks to the dreams of today’s generation,” said group frontman MC Kayman during the launch event in Kuala Lumpur.
The music video, filmed in iconic locations such as Dataran Merdeka, Penang’s George Town, and Sabah’s Mount Kinabalu foothills, showcases Malaysians from all walks of life waving the Jalur Gemilang. It emphasizes togetherness across ethnic, cultural, and geographic lines—echoing this year’s Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni theme.
Patriotic Music in a New Era
Patriotic songs have long been part of Malaysia’s cultural landscape, from classics like Sejahtera Malaysia to contemporary anthems. SteadyGang’s release reflects a new wave of patriotic music that blends national pride with modern genres such as rap, EDM, and R&B—designed to connect with Generation Z and millennial listeners.
The group also revealed that the song will be performed live during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Merdeka, alongside other local acts.
Beyond Malaysia, SteadyGang’s fusion of hip-hop with cultural identity is gaining attention in Singapore, Indonesia, and even among Malaysian diaspora communities in the UK and Australia. With hip-hop now a global language, “Tanah Air Kita” could extend Malaysia’s patriotic music tradition onto the international stage, presenting a new way to express cultural identity abroad.
