Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 11 August 2026 – The ringgit opened firmer against the US dollar after unexpectedly weak American employment data reduced expectations for tighter monetary policy and softened the outlook for the greenback.

At 8am, the Malaysian currency strengthened to 4.0875/0925 against the dollar from Friday’s close of 4.0885/0930. The movement was modest, but it reflected a material change in rate expectations after United States non-farm payrolls fell by 23,000 in July, compared with a consensus forecast for an increase of 88,000 jobs.
