Tokyo, 16 September 2026 – Petronas LNG Ltd and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security have established a flexible framework for future liquefied natural gas supply arrangements, reinforcing the energy relationship between Malaysia and Japan. The agreement puts supply resilience alongside commercial flexibility, while explicitly recognising Malaysia’s domestic requirements.

The Master Sales and Purchase Agreement was signed during the LNG Producer and Consumer Conference in Tokyo on 11 September. Petronas describes it as a cooperative framework intended to support Japan’s energy security and allow a more agile response to changing supply needs. Japan has been an important LNG market for the Malaysian energy group for more than four decades.
