Malaysia Holds OPR at 2.75% as Stronger Ringgit Helps Temper Inflation Pressure

Kuala Lumpur, 7 May 2026 – Bank Negara Malaysia has kept the Overnight Policy Rate unchanged at 2.75%, maintaining a steady monetary stance as a stronger ringgit helps cushion imported inflation pressure while domestic growth remains resilient.

The decision was in line with market expectations and marks another pause by the central bank as policymakers balance stable inflation, sustained economic activity and external risks. BNM described the current policy stance as appropriate and consistent with continued price stability and sustainable economic growth.
