Seoul, 6 November 2026 – The Korea Exchange halted trading in shares on South Korea’s main board for 20 minutes on 6 November after the Korea Composite Stock Price Index, or Kospi, fell 8.52% to 4,924.61. The halt began at about 9.03am Seoul time. Japan’s Nikkei 225 also fell more than 6% in early trading as a sell-off in US artificial intelligence stocks spread to Asian markets.

For regional investors, the halt is the day’s most tangible sign of how quickly selling intensified after the open. It interrupts trading in the affected market but does not put a floor under prices when trading resumes. The declines also show how a change in expectations for US technology spending can affect Asian suppliers, even though the session’s price moves do not establish that customers have cut orders.
