Kakao to Split into KakaoAI and KakaoX in Sweeping Restructuring to Eliminate Conglomerate Discount and Relist in 2027

Seoul, 21 August 2026 – South Korean internet conglomerate Kakao Corp has approved a sweeping corporate restructuring plan to spin off its core KakaoTalk messenger and artificial intelligence operations into a standalone entity tentatively named KakaoAI, while reorganizing its holding and investment businesses under surviving firm KakaoX.

The corporate partition, approved by Kakao’s board of directors on Friday, is designed to resolve a persistent conglomerate discount that has depressed the tech giant’s market valuation, while accelerating independent capital allocation and technological specialization in the generative AI era.
