Kuala Lumpur, 21 August 2026 – Asian stock markets headed for broad weekly declines on Friday as relentless selling pressure in global sovereign bond markets and elevated crude oil prices revived concerns over persistent inflation and sustained higher borrowing costs across international economies.

Equity benchmarks across the Asia-Pacific region struggled to establish upward momentum as long-term United States Treasury yields resumed their ascent, negating brief relief brought by sovereign debt buyback announcements earlier in the week. The benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield hovered near 4.71 percent, while the 30-year bond yield traded up around 5.25 percent, remaining near multi-decade highs and raising hurdle rates for risk assets globally.
