Tokyo, 6 November 2026 – Japan is preparing a public-private cyber rescue team to help organisations respond to serious hacking incidents, part of an emergency package prompted by a series of data breaches. The government also decided on Friday to allocate about ¥10 billion from fiscal 2026 reserves to wider cybersecurity measures. That allocation covers several initiatives and is not a budget solely for the proposed rescue team.
For Asian businesses that operate in Japan or rely on Japanese suppliers, the plan addresses a problem that extends beyond the company first attacked. A breach at a shared service provider can disrupt operations or put customer data at risk elsewhere. The proposed team could give affected organisations access to more specialists during the first hours of an incident. The plan does not establish that the team is already operational or that every company would qualify for help.
