Shenzhen, 21 September 2026 – Chinese processor designer Hygon Information Technology is preparing to move beyond its established data-centre focus with a new chip aimed at robotics, machine vision and intelligent manufacturing. The launch, scheduled for Tuesday in Shenzhen, extends the company’s CPU1000 series into low-power embedded and edge-computing applications where machines must process information close to the point of action.
The strategic shift reflects a wider transition in artificial intelligence investment. Large data centres remain the foundation for training advanced models, but commercial value increasingly depends on deploying those models in factories, warehouses, vehicles and service robots. Edge processors must combine computing performance with lower power consumption, predictable latency and reliability in demanding physical environments, creating a different engineering challenge from general-purpose server workloads.
