KUALA LUMPUR – The government has lodged reports with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police over the circulation of videos spreading false claims about Lembaga Tabung Haji, including calls for Muslims to withdraw their deposits.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Naim Mokhtar confirmed the matter had been referred to the authorities for impartial investigation.
“I am aware of several videos being circulated that could cause serious impact, including urging depositors to withdraw their savings from Tabung Haji. Such incitement undermines our efforts to safeguard the integrity of the institution. The government is monitoring the situation closely, and action has been taken, including lodging police reports and filing complaints with the MCMC against content deemed inciteful,” he said during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) regarding false narratives circulating in WhatsApp groups, including allegations that Tabung Haji is managed by non-Muslims. Mohd Naim described such claims as malicious and aimed at eroding public trust.
The minister added that his department, in collaboration with Tabung Haji and related agencies such as TV AlHijrah and IKIM, will continue conducting awareness campaigns to provide accurate information and counter misleading narratives.
“We call on all parties to work together in defending the integrity of Tabung Haji,” he stressed.
