KUALA LUMPUR, 11 November 2025 – BMW Group Malaysia has partnered with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) to advance Malaysia’s technical and vocational education in preparation for the electric vehicle (EV) era. The collaboration introduces the BMW Next Generation Technician (BMW NextGT) programme, reinforcing BMW’s commitment to cultivating world-class technical talent and supporting Malaysia’s transition toward a sustainable, electrified automotive future.

The partnership will equip a new generation of automotive technicians with advanced skills aligned with global industry standards. STDC automotive trainers will first undergo hands-on training under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework, covering both conventional and electrified vehicle technologies. These trainers will then pass on their expertise to vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, preparing them for a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.

Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, said:

“The automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and this calls for a workforce ready to drive innovation forward. Through the BMW NextGT programme, we are investing in education and technical development, empowering trainers and students with skills aligned with BMW’s global standards. This initiative will cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the country’s transition in the automotive sector.”

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor, added:

“We are honoured by BMW Group Malaysia’s trust in STDC. The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to nurturing future-ready talent for sustainable mobility. This collaboration demonstrates how government and industry partnerships can advance technical and vocational excellence while positioning Selangor as a regional hub for advanced automotive innovation.”

The programme is set to roll out in 2026 with initial support from Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles, and will expand to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards. BMW NextGT builds upon the foundation of existing programmes such as the BMW Technical Training Programme (BTTP) and the internationally recognised BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification, which have already contributed to developing Malaysia’s EV workforce.

This initiative is part of BMW Group Malaysia’s Heritage in Motion philosophy, reflecting a long-term commitment to progress and innovation while ensuring Malaysia remains at the forefront of automotive development in the region.
