BANGKOK, 10 March 2026 – Amazon Web Services (AWS) is positioning Thailand as a potential regional artificial-intelligence hub, aiming to accelerate cloud adoption and AI innovation across Southeast Asia as the demand for advanced computing infrastructure surges.
The cloud computing arm of Amazon is increasing its focus on Thailand following the launch of its AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) cloud region, which provides local data-centre infrastructure to support businesses, government agencies and startups adopting artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.
AWS executives say the strategy revolves around expanding the use of AI platforms, cloud services and digital infrastructure while building a stronger ecosystem of developers and enterprises capable of deploying artificial-intelligence solutions across industries.
Strengthening Southeast Asia’s AI Infrastructure
Thailand’s digital economy ambitions have made it an attractive destination for global technology giants seeking to expand AI infrastructure in the region.
AWS has committed to invest about US$5 billion (around 190 billion baht) in Thailand by 2037, funding the development of cloud data centres and advanced digital services designed to power AI, machine learning and data-driven applications.
The new infrastructure will allow companies to store data locally, reduce latency and access high-performance computing resources, making it easier for businesses to build AI applications while complying with national data-residency requirements.
Industry observers note that such infrastructure is becoming critical as enterprises across Southeast Asia adopt generative AI and other advanced technologies requiring massive computing capacity.
Thailand’s Ambition to Become a Regional Technology Hub
The push from AWS aligns with Thailand’s broader ambition to transform itself into a digital and artificial-intelligence hub within Southeast Asia.
The Thai government has introduced several initiatives to strengthen the digital economy, including cloud-first policies, smart-city programmes and investment incentives aimed at attracting global technology firms.
Beyond AWS, other global technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, have also announced plans to expand cloud and data-centre investments in Thailand, highlighting the country’s growing importance in the regional tech ecosystem.
The combination of strong digital infrastructure, growing developer talent and increasing enterprise demand for AI services could position Thailand as a key computing hub linking Southeast Asia’s digital economies.
AI Infrastructure Race Intensifies in Asia
The move reflects a wider race among global technology firms to build AI infrastructure across Asia, where demand for cloud computing and machine learning services is expanding rapidly.
Data centres capable of supporting AI workloads are being built at an unprecedented pace across the region, as governments and companies compete to secure strategic advantages in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
For AWS, strengthening its presence in Thailand not only expands its regional cloud footprint but also helps the company capture growing demand from enterprises developing AI applications across Southeast Asia.
If successful, Thailand could emerge as one of the region’s key AI innovation centres, supporting startups, enterprises and governments seeking to harness artificial intelligence to drive economic growth.
