Singapore, 2 August 2026 – The Singapore dollar strengthened while the Japanese yen recovered during a volatile week for Asian currencies, forcing investors to reassess policy divergence, intervention risk and the cost of carrying exposure across the region.
The Singdollar’s firmness reflects structural support that has persisted through 2026. Singapore’s exchange-rate-centred monetary framework allows the currency to move against a trade-weighted basket, making appreciation an important tool for containing imported inflation. Strong trade balances, electronics exports and wealth-management inflows have also supported demand for the currency during periods of market stress.
