Kuala Lumpur, 6 November 2026 – The Malaysian ringgit closed weaker against the US dollar on Friday as a sell-off in technology shares lifted demand for the US currency. At 6pm Malaysia time, the ringgit was quoted at RM4.0565–RM4.0610 per US dollar, against RM4.0445–RM4.0490 at Thursday’s close. The move came a day after Bank Negara Malaysia held its overnight policy rate at 2.75%.
The ringgit’s losses against the dollar did not extend across the currency market: it gained against the euro, sterling and the Singapore dollar. A company paying a US-dollar invoice faced a less favourable exchange rate at Friday’s close, while one paying a supplier in euros or Singapore dollars saw the opposite move, before hedges and transaction costs.
