Hong Kong, 28 October 2026 – Hong Kong is expanding the offshore renminbi market from a cross-border payment gateway into a broader system for trade finance, investment and currency risk management. The scale is visible in two different measures: renminbi deposits stood at RMB1.1015 trillion at the end of August 2026, while Bank of China (Hong Kong) processed RMB286.85 trillion in renminbi clearing during the first half of the year.
