Beijing, 28 September 2026 – China’s consumer-focused equities are struggling to attract the same enthusiasm as technology-linked shares, and weak retail growth helps explain the divide. Official data show that August retail sales of consumer goods rose only 0.4% year on year to 3.982 trillion yuan. Across the first eight months of 2026, sales increased 1.1% from a year earlier.
