Changsha, 8 October 2026 – A long-running dispute over 196 parking spaces in a residential development has become a case study in how contractual property rights can collide with community expectations. The buyer, identified by her surname Wu, acquired the spaces for about 14 million yuan in 2018 before selling or leasing some at higher prices, prompting objections and litigation from residents.
The acquisition represented roughly 40% of the project’s parking inventory. Residents argued that such a concentrated holding limited access and raised costs for households that expected parking to serve the development. Wu maintained that she had purchased the spaces lawfully and could determine how to use or dispose of them under the applicable contracts.
