Cupertino, 24 September 2026 – Apple’s iOS 27 update adds more detailed parental controls, browser monitoring and AI-assisted photo tools, broadening the role of software features in the iPhone ecosystem. The release is available for devices dating back to the iPhone 11, while some Apple Intelligence functions require newer models beginning with the iPhone 16 and selected iPhone 15 Pro variants. This hardware distinction matters commercially because it can encourage upgrades without removing support from a large installed base.
The redesigned Screen Time system lets parents select applications during a child’s device setup and grant access incrementally. An Ask to Browse feature requires children under 13 to request permission before visiting new websites in Safari. Parents can also set app-category schedules around school and other activities, suspend access temporarily or relax restrictions when necessary. Communications Safety expands beyond nudity screening to flag graphic violence. These changes make family management a more prominent part of the product rather than a separate add-on.
