New York, 24 September 2026 – The United States has pledged an additional US$267 million to fight Ebola in central Africa, lifting the administration’s stated commitment to US$886 million. The new funding announcement was made as health agencies and regional partners seek to expand treatment, testing and protection for healthcare workers. A pledge is a commitment of resources; the timing and effect of disbursement will depend on implementation on the ground.
Of the US$886 million total cited by officials, US$107 million is associated with the Department of Health and Human Services. The additional US$267 million should not be counted on top of the new US$886 million aggregate, which already includes it. Officials have discussed a broader US$2 billion international funding goal, but that target is not money already secured. Keeping pledged, allocated and spent sums separate is essential to understanding the response.
