AI Chips Drive an Uneven Semiconductor Upcycle Across Asian Supply Chains

AI chips, high-bandwidth memory and advanced packaging are driving semiconductor growth, while consumer and automotive recovery remains less consistent.

Kuala Lumpur, 21 September 2026 – Asia’s semiconductor industry is entering an uneven growth phase as artificial-intelligence chips, high-bandwidth memory and advanced packaging expand rapidly while consumer electronics and parts of the automotive market recover more slowly. The divergence means that a rising global chip market will not translate into equal revenue or margin gains across manufacturers, equipment suppliers and testing companies.

AI infrastructure remains the strongest structural driver. Data-centre accelerators require advanced logic, specialised memory, optical connectivity and increasingly complex packaging. These products carry higher technical requirements and can support stronger pricing than conventional chips. Companies positioned in high-bandwidth memory, advanced-node manufacturing and intensive inspection therefore have clearer exposure to the current investment cycle.
