Kuala Lumpur, 16 September 2026 – Malaysia will hold a special meeting to review measures that could ease the impact of higher household electricity bills, as hot weather and haze increase consumption for some users. The review follows complaints from consumers and raises a policy question about how targeted protection should respond when unusually high cooling demand pushes households beyond the protected usage range.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the meeting, scheduled for 17 September, would involve the energy ministry, the Energy Commission, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the Ministry of Finance. He said targeted subsidies would remain in place. No new relief amount, revised tariff or approved implementation timetable was announced with the meeting, so consumers should not assume that a specific adjustment has already been authorised.
