Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 17 August 2026 – Malaysia plans to amend the Tabung Haji Act 1995 as part of a wider effort to strengthen governance and protect the trust placed in the pilgrimage fund by Muslim depositors.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as finance minister, said the proposed amendment to Act 535 would address institutional weaknesses and reinforce accountability. The announcement places the legal framework governing Tabung Haji at the centre of a broader reform discussion involving stewardship, investment discipline and public confidence.
