Australia Raises Minimum Wage by 4.75% as Cost Pressures Test Economic Balance

Canberra, 2 June 2026 – Australia will raise its national minimum wage and award wages by 4.75% from July 1, giving millions of low-paid workers a larger pay packet as policymakers try to balance cost-of-living relief against inflation and economic uncertainty.

The Fair Work Commission’s annual wage decision will lift the national minimum wage to A$1,004.90 per week, or A$26.44 per hour, from the first full pay period starting on or after July 1. The increase will affect close to 3 million workers, including those on minimum wage and modern award rates across sectors such as retail, hospitality, care services, administration and other lower-paid industries.
