SUNWAY CITY, 02 DECEMBER 2025 — Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, has been recognised for its pioneering smart healthcare initiatives with the Technology and Innovation Excellence Award at the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Business Excellence Awards 2025. The award, which honours organisations that have successfully applied digital, innovative, or disruptive technologies in the past three years, underscores SMC’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s digital healthcare landscape.
Dr Seow Vei Ken, Chief Executive Officer of SMC, said that the hospital’s strategy has been to embrace cutting-edge technologies and digitalise healthcare services to elevate patient experience, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the working environment for its clinical team. He added that as healthcare technology continues to evolve, the recognition motivates SMC to maintain its momentum and remain at the forefront of smart healthcare in Malaysia.
Over the years, SMC has consistently introduced breakthrough technologies, including Malaysia’s first automated microbiology laboratory specimen processing system, the Walk Away Sample Processor (WASP), alongside cloud-based Hospital Information Systems and Electronic Medical Records with Computerised Physician Order Entry, the Outpatient Pharmacy Automation System, and Annalise AI for radiology imaging.
The hospital has also integrated advanced robotic technologies across several clinical services, such as the Mako SmartRobotics system, the ROSA® Knee System, and the VELYS™ Robotic Assisted Solution for joint replacement procedures. It is home to Southeast Asia’s first commercial installation of the AiBLE™ Spine Surgical System for precision spinal procedures and was the first in Malaysia to adopt the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System for minimally invasive procedures across multiple specialties.
This recognition follows SMC’s recent inclusion in Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 ranking, where it was listed among the world’s top 350 hospitals and named Malaysia’s number one smart hospital. As of 2025, the hospital is supported by more than 300 medical consultants across 80 specialties and 28 Centres of Excellence, and it remains the pioneer in Malaysia to secure three major hospital-wide accreditations: the Joint Commission International Gold Seal of Approval from the United States, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International, and the Malaysian Society of Quality in Health.
Launched in 2018, the BMCC Business Excellence Awards celebrate the enduring commercial ties between the United Kingdom and Malaysia, recognising outstanding achievements across diverse industries.
