Hong Kong, 19 September 2025 — Zijin Gold International, the overseas gold arm of China’s Zijin Mining Group, has launched what is set to be the largest public share offering in Hong Kong this year, aiming to raise HK$24.98 billion (US$3.21 billion). The move signals both the company’s global expansion ambitions and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s push to reassert itself as a hub for mega-listings.
According to the prospectus, Zijin Gold plans to issue 349 million shares at HK$71.59 each, with trading scheduled to begin on 29 September 2025. The IPO, jointly sponsored by Morgan Stanley and CITIC Securities, will give investors direct exposure to Zijin’s non-China gold assets, which include operations in Africa, Central Asia, and South America.
Unlocking Overseas Gold Assets
The listing is a strategic spin-off from Zijin Mining, one of China’s largest resource companies. By separating its international gold business, Zijin aims to highlight the value of its offshore mines and secure long-term funding flexibility. Proceeds from the offering will go towards expanding production capacity, modernising facilities, and enhancing operational efficiency across its overseas portfolio.
The company noted that the funds will also support acquisitions and joint ventures in gold-rich regions, positioning Zijin as a heavyweight in the global gold sector at a time when bullion prices remain near record highs.
Hong Kong’s Big Year
Zijin Gold’s listing will be the largest IPO in Hong Kong since May 2025, dwarfing the US$1.2 billion raised by Chery Automobile earlier this year. For Hong Kong’s financial market, which has struggled in recent years with fewer blockbuster deals, the Zijin Gold float underscores a tentative revival in investor confidence and the city’s role as a capital-raising gateway for Chinese firms.
Gold Demand and Investor Appetite
The IPO comes against a backdrop of strong global gold demand, driven by central bank purchases, investor hedging against inflation, and steady jewellery demand across Asia. With gold expected to remain resilient, analysts see Zijin’s offering as timely — giving institutional investors access to a company with both scale and geographic diversification.
Market Implications
For investors, Zijin Gold’s debut provides an option to tap into a pure-play gold producer with global reach, separate from Zijin Mining’s diversified metals portfolio, which also includes copper and lithium. Analysts say the success of the IPO could set the tone for more mining and commodities listings in Hong Kong, particularly as China encourages resource companies to globalise their financing structures.
