Houston, United States, 29 August 2026 – The United States has begun designing a new federal Space Academy intended to train technical leaders for military, civil and commercial space activity, turning workforce development into a strategic pillar of the country’s expanding orbital ambitions. President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a presidential commission to shape the institution, with the NASA administrator serving as chair and recommendations due within 120 days.
The planned academy would combine advanced technical education with leadership training, discipline and public service. Its graduates could support the Space Force, civilian programmes and the commercial space industry, creating a pipeline of engineers, operators and managers able to work across an increasingly interconnected space economy. The commission will examine governance, graduate service obligations, legislative requirements and the academy’s location before submitting its design.
