Putrajaya, 21 October 2026 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested a civil servant suspected of soliciting and accepting about RM30 million in bribes from several companies. Investigators allege the payments were connected with assistance in reducing assessment-tax liabilities totalling RM140 million between 2025 and 2026.
The case matters to Malaysian businesses and investors because assessment taxes affect property costs, municipal revenue and confidence in administrative decisions. The arrest and six-day remand are confirmed procedural steps, but the allegations have not been proven in court. The suspect is entitled to due process, and a remand order is not a finding of guilt.
