Hong Kong, 28 August 2026 – The US dollar held near a one-week high against major currencies on Friday as investors waited for Federal Reserve chairman Kevin Warsh’s first Jackson Hole address for guidance on inflation, interest rates and the central bank’s policy framework. The dollar index was little changed at 99.13 in early Asian trading, leaving regional markets positioned for a potentially sharp reaction to the speech.
The euro traded near US$1.1652 and sterling around US$1.3597, both close to one-week lows against the greenback. The yen stood at 159.34 per dollar after surrendering part of the gains generated by recent intervention, although it remained on course for a monthly advance of about 1.3%. These moves show investors reducing directional exposure rather than expressing a strong conviction before the policy event.
