Menlo Park, 19 October 2026 – Meta Platforms restored the No Kings Coalition’s Instagram account after automated activity linked to an Anthropic Claude tool triggered the platform’s security systems on 17 October. Meta said its systems mistakenly suspended the account after the tool accessed profiles, posts and hashtags at roughly four times the normal rate during intense bursts. The page was unavailable for about 90 minutes before access was restored.
For Asian businesses and investors, the incident shows how legitimate use of artificial intelligence can resemble malicious automation when it interacts with a major consumer platform at scale. The suspension and restoration are confirmed, but there is no evidence that Meta deliberately targeted the coalition or that Claude itself made a political decision. The practical issue is the growing operational risk at the boundary between AI agents, platform rules and automated security controls.
