Washington, 7 August 2026 – Non-farm employment across the United States unexpectedly contracted in July, as the domestic labor market registered a sharp slowdown that prompted global investors to recalibrate expectations regarding Federal Reserve monetary policy. According to official data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, payrolls shrank by 23,000 positions, defying consensus market expectations of an 80,000 gain and marking a significant retreat from revised growth figures recorded earlier in the summer.
