Singapore, 1 October 2026 – A Singapore public-service pilot is using a compatibility algorithm to introduce single officers aged 21 to 35 to one potential match at a time, offering a small but revealing test of how government technology can be applied to social needs. FirstDate is not a nationwide dating service, and its launch does not establish that the programme will improve relationships or demographic outcomes. Its significance lies in the design and safeguards of the experiment.
The platform was developed from an idea explored at a government technology hackathon and is being tested across the Public Service. Participation is restricted to eligible public officers and verified through Singpass. Instead of presenting an endless stream of profiles, it asks about interests, habits, values and preferences, then offers one match during each cycle. That approach is intended to reduce the rapid-swipe dynamic common to commercial apps and give users more time to consider an introduction.
