Singapore, 26 October 2026 – Seatrium is building a 30,000-tonne high-voltage direct-current platform for delivery in 2028 as Singapore’s marine yards pursue earnings from Europe’s offshore-wind grid expansion. The structure, about 15 storeys tall, is designed to operate roughly 60 kilometres offshore and transmit electricity generated by distant wind farms.
The project matters to Asian investors because HVDC platforms are complex, long-duration infrastructure assets that can support shipyard order books beyond traditional oil and gas work. Confirmed contracts offer revenue visibility, but they do not eliminate construction, supply-chain or margin risk. Global offshore-wind investment fell 72% in the first half of 2026 to about US$12 billion, underlining a market that is expanding unevenly.
