Singapore, 23 September 2026 – Singapore’s benchmark equity index finished modestly lower as weakness in OCBC and Seatrium outweighed gains elsewhere, illustrating how a handful of large constituents can determine an index close even when the wider market is mixed. The Straits Times Index fell 13.85 points, or 0.2%, to 5,709.91 on Wednesday.
The decline did not reflect a uniform retreat. Across the broader market, 279 stocks rose and 249 fell, while about 1.2 billion securities worth S$2 billion changed hands. The divergence between index direction and market breadth matters for investors: a negative headline close can coexist with selective buying in smaller or less heavily weighted counters.
