Singapore, 23 September 2026 – Singapore is preparing a broader phase of its SGSecure movement as authorities warn that terrorism remains a material national risk, even without evidence of a specific imminent attack. Marking the initiative’s tenth anniversary, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the next stage would extend preparedness deeper into neighbourhoods, schools and workplaces, supported by more volunteer advocates and stronger community participation.
The renewed emphasis reflects a threat environment that has become more fragmented since SGSecure was launched in 2016. Traditional organised networks remain a concern, but online radicalisation can now move individuals towards violence without direct operational contact. Singapore’s latest terrorism assessment identifies youth radicalisation as a pressing issue and also points to the emergence of far-right and nihilistic extremist influences alongside longstanding ideological threats.
